Demonstrators Gather Outside Turkish Embassy in Dublin

On September 23, 2026, at 12:45 pm, protesters gathered outside the Embassy of Türkiye in Ballsbridge, Dublin, to demonstrate solidarity with the Turkish LGBTQ+ community. Organized by Labour LGBTQ+, the rally brought together politicians, human rights advocates, and community representatives who waved rainbow flags and demanded immediate diplomatic intervention from the Irish government.

Raids and Arrests Under Türkiye's 'My Family Is Safe' Campaign

The demonstration responded to widespread police crackdowns executed across 12 Turkish provinces on September 13, followed by additional arrests outside an Istanbul courthouse on September . Spearheaded by Justice Minister Akın Gürlek under the 'My Family Is Safe' campaign, authorities confirmed that 162 individuals, 13 businesses, and nine associations are currently under official investigation.

Irish Political Leaders Urge European Action

Labour LGBTQ+ Co-Chair Joshua Ellul criticized the Turkish government for using LGBTQ+ people as scapegoats and urged Foreign Minister Helen McEntee to condemn Türkiye within the European Parliament. Ellul highlighted Ireland's rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, emphasizing that Türkiye remains bound by the European Convention on Human Rights.  Labour Leader Ivana Bacik reinforced these calls, warning that state restrictions deepen threats to safety and affirming that LGBTQ+ individuals in Türkiye have the right to live and organize without fear.
